IBFS: International Blood Forecasting System
As part of a project to rebrand the current U.S. system for blood, poetic images of blood were used in
a proposed awareness campaign to remind people to donate blood. The adopted
phrase “Give Blood. Save Lives.” was included for added emphasis. To further emphasize the
act of giving blood t-shirts with the IBFS logo and campaign slogan were made for those who
gave blood as a thank you.
The International Blood Forecasting System (IBFS) uses a logo that doubles as a system for blood type specification. The graphic is meant to mimic blood droplets. The system utilizes open circles to indicate negative blood types, and filled for positive. The position of the circle around the icon indicate blood type, from left to right: A, B, AB, and O. The bag was redesigned to be more aesthetically appealing to the eye for patients as well as allow the blood to flow out smoother and completely. The label was simplified from eight barcodes to a QR code that would hold all necessary information for easier use.
This large project was completed in ten weeks by a group of sixteen students. We were in three groups: documentation, print, and web,
along with a project manager to create a mock studio. For
this reason, the project provided for practice working within groups and communicating with others in order to solve problems.
